Janaan! A breath of fresh air for Pakistan’s Cinema By Khurram Zia Khan
Janaan is a Pakistani romantic comedy film directed
by Azfar Jafri ,written by Osman
Khalid Butt, and co-produced by Hareem Farooq,
Reham Khan, Munir Hussain and Imran Raza
Kazmi under production banners of IRK
Films and Munir Hussain Films - UK.

present Star studded premier of Janaan took place at Nuplex cinema Karachi.
Watching Janaan’s trailers prior to the premier, I was under
the impression that it will be a typical love triangle where two guys are
fighting for one girl but after watching the movie, I can safely say that
Jannan’s story is an original movie.

Story of Janaan revolves Meena played by Armeena Khan who came
back to her Pakistan from Canada after eleven years. Two of her cousins fell in
love with her but one of them Danish played by Ali Rehman quietly moved out
without creating any fuss once he finds that girl is in love with Asfandyar
played by Bilal Ashraf.
Co-Producer of Janaan Hareem Farooq with villain of the movie Nayyar Ejaz
Janaan with all the fun and entertainment carried a subtle
message that giving education to children should be top priority for all the
parents.
Ghar Ka Chola Ilm ki
buyaad per chana chahiye (A household should earn income based on education) is one of the best
dialogue of this movie highlighting the importance of education. In a country
like Pakistan where 25 million children are out of school, highlighting the
importance of education through mass medium like cinema is an appreciable step.

Although raising these grave issues in one movie did not give
us much hope about solving these problems but Janaan must be given credit for
making an effort to highlight these social problems
Janaan also highlighted the issue of child sodomizing in a
mellow way. This is also a grave issue and people consider it a taboo subject
and avoid discussing about it. All credit to Janaan’s team for raising these
two vital issues of our society in this movie.

Janaan is picturised in Swat valley. As Janaan will be
released in 15 countries, I am sure that scenic beauty of Swat valley will tempt
tourists living in different parts of the world to visit this valley.
Through Janaan, a softer side of Pashtun culture is showed
Songs in Janaan are placed according to the demand of situation.
Role of villain is also limited and producer did well by not including long or
needless fighting sequels in the movie.
This movie for the first time showed the softer side of
Pashtoo language. This was never done in the past.
In my view, in some scenes acting was weak, but good story
covered that weakness. I think movie can do away with the scene where Armeena
Khan was shown doing silly things and using lousy language under the effect of
anesthesia. Patients gone drowsy after anesthesia but the way Armeena was
behaving she was looking under the influence of alcohol not under anesthesia.
If producer want to have this fun scene in the movie, he should send Armeena to
somewhere else and not to dentist to get drunk. Barring this overacting, Armeena
Khan expressed herself well at few vital stages of the movie particularly in
the party when she scolded Asfandyar and also in the last scene of the movie.
Ajab Gul playing the role of Agha Ji acted well and was the
real father figure for all the novice of the movie.
I think that showing Asfandyar as an adopted son of Agha ji
was a useless inclusion and movie can do without it.
Ajab Gul acted well and was the real father figure for all
the novice of the movie. Bilal Ashraf is a handsome guy but he needs to develop his
acting skills. He is good at expressing himself as angry young man but he need
to raise the bar in future when it comes to expressing feelings of love and
hatred for the heroin.
Palwasha of Janaan,Hania Aamir spotted at movie's Karachi premier
Ali Rehman Khan justifies his role very well. He is the real
lynch pin of this movie and all those who watch Janaan in coming days will like
this adorable character
Director of the movie Azfar Jafri did a wonderful job. The
locations were well selected and cinematography was well handled as one cannot
find any major loopholes in it.
‘To sacrifice your joy for
the happiness of the person whom you loved is the real love’ and this is the
message of Janaan for everyone.
Janaan is a must watch for people from all walks of life and
I hope in coming days public in large numbers visit cinemas to watch Janaan.
Janaan will be released in 15 countries in the month of
September 2016. This is the first movie in history of Pakistan’s cinema to be
released at such a massive scale globally.
